The Maldives president responded by extending gratitude to the Indian PM for taking the initiative to this, “important endeavor”.

The fatal disease requires “collective efforts” to be defeated, said the president, who went on to add that the government welcomes this proposal and assured that the regional effort will have the Maldives' full support.

In a separate Tweet, PM Modi stressed that the South Asian region must “leave no stone unturned” to ensure their citizens are healthy, as a home to a large chunk of the global population.
