Large public gatherings must be avoided at this critical time and the public must refrain from panicking, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Addressing the nation at a time the fears over the rapidly-rising global pandemic has taken over the Maldivian people, the president gave instruction for the public to adhere to including working together to stick to the regulations and advise from health experts during such a period.
Shedding light on the recent declaration of the Covid-19 as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), Solih noted the challenges the entire globe is facing.
As such, the president gave assurance that the government is taking all relevant measures to combat the disease and enhance the current situation in the country under the guidance and instructions from global medical experts.
Maldives has conducted a national risk assessment, identified the depth of the incoming economic impact and shared this information with the public, said Solih.
Further, the president urged the people to take responsibility to follow the directives from healthcare professionals and maintain their personal hygiene through advised procedures.
It is also important to assist those in need, especially in the health sector, said Solih, who extended appreciation to the health care experts working “tirelessly” day and night to help the affected and eradicate the pandemic before it spreads any further.
Also during his speech, the president reassured the public of the government’s commitment to continue providing verified information, highlighting that the administration will continue seeking precautionary measures that are vital to protect the people.
