Maldives-Morocco visa waiver agreement to take effect from Friday

In accordance with the visa exemption agreement signed between Maldives and Morocco in November 2019, the Kingdom of Morocco has allowed visa exemption for Maldivians.

The reveal was made via a press release on Thursday, where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that Maldivians traveling to the kingdom will be exempt from visa, from Friday onwards.

This will allow Maldivians holding valid passports a maximum of 30-days from the day of their entry into the kingdom.

Maldivians intending to stay longer or work, acquire education or conduct any forms of business will need to obtain an appropriate visa prior to their arrival in the country, in accordance to the visa exemption agreement.

The agreement was signed during November 2019 by Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and his counterpart Nasser Bourita signed for the Moroccan government.

Maldives consider the visa exemption as a gesture of close and cordial relations between the two countries and a testament to the high regard accorded to the archipelago nation by the Moroccan kingdom.

The visa exemption was initially set to take effect from January 2020.

Alongside the visa waiver agreement, Maldives and Morocco also signed three other agreements; agreement for Islamic Cooperation between the Ministry of Islamic Affairs of Maldives and Ministry of Religious Endowments and Islamic Affairs of Morocco, on Cooperation between Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Maldives and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Morocco as well as an MoU between the Foreign Service Institute of the Republic of Maldives and the Foreign Service Academy of the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco.
