A Maldivian has been quarantined after returning from a trip to Bangladesh.
The reveal was made by Spokesperson for all things Covid-19, Mabrook Aziz during a press conference on Wednesday night.
Revealing updates on the situation of the outbreak in the country, Mabrook stated that the Maldivian has been quarantined at Vilivaru after he returned from Sri Lanka.
He is to have flown to Sri Lanka from Bangladesh, and returned before the required 14-day period as stated in the recent travel ban to Bangladesh.
On Tuesday, the government banned arrivals from Bangladesh as part of the safeguards being implemented against the wide-spreading coronavirus across the globe.
As such, all passengers and crew with a travel history to Bangladesh within the past 14 days will “not be allowed” to enter or transit through Maldives, effective from Tuesday till 24 March.
The announcement also reads that citizens of the aforementioned countries residing in another country or has been out of their homeland for over 14 days are abstained from the travel ban.
The positive cases surfaced from Kuredu Island Resort after an Italian tourist vacationed there and reported to have tested positive to the disease after returning home. Since then, the resort has been on lockdown along with Sandies Bathala Maldives. As of Wednesday, there are eight confirmed cases of the virus in the Maldives.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also cautioned against traveling to Bangladesh as well as other countries that have confirmed cases of Covid-19.
Up until Tuesday, there were three confirmed cases in Bangladesh.
