The Ministry of Tourism has asserted that there should be no negligence in equal rights to employees as per the employment laws and regulations of the Maldives.

The ministry released a press statement on Wednesday, which was read out at a press conference hosted by government to update the public on the latest information regarding the global pandemic.

Spokesperson for all things Covid-19, Mabrook Aziz revealed that the statement has been circulated to the resorts and all tourism establishments in reference to the global pandemic of Covid-19.

The statement highlighted the recent cases and concerns of the outbreak in the Maldives as well as travel suspensions, nationally and internationally.

Further, the ministry urged all tourism establishments to comply with the Employment Act of the Maldives.

As such, the ministry shed light on the importance of conformity to these laws and regulations, which will help maintain harmony among employees and management at this “challenging time”.

Pushing the managements to work in a manner to do their “level best” to ensure the “safe and healthy” work environment to all employees, the ministry urged the management of tourism establishments to work in a manner that will ensure a safe and healthy work environment to all employees.

All eight coronavirus cases confirmed in Maldives are from resorts; Kuredu Island Resort (4), Sandies Bathala Maldives (2) and Kuramathi Island Resort (2).

16 individuals are currently isolated at the facility in Farukolhufushi while 13 quarantined at Vilivaru.

82 samples have been taken thus far, with the inclusion of seven samples sent to neighboring India for testing.

A foreigner from Sandies Bathala Island Resort is to be tested in Farukolhifushi as a precautionary measure, after coming into contact with a confirmed case.
