The final draft of the report being compiled by the Presidential Inquiry Commission on Corruption and Asset Recovery will be completed by the end of the ongoing month, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Speaking at the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s “Rahvehi Fathis” campaign event in Raa atoll, the president revealed that the presidential inquiry commission’s work is almost near completion.

As such, Solih highlighted that he received the first draft of the report compiled by the commission based on its findings, during the previous week.

I received the first draft about a week ago, God willing work is now underway to implement the required actions after we receive the final draft. We will be disclosing what is needed to be shared with the public”
President Solih

Adding that the final draft will be completed by the end of March, the president highlighted that all the required measures and actions will be implemented once the final draft is forwarded.

Moreover, Solih said that “what needs to be shared with the public, will be disclosed to the people”.

The inquiry commission was formed with the purpose to investigate and recuperate losses to the state dated between 1 January 2012 to 17 November 2018, the day of its establishment, through cases of gross corruption and misappropriation.

The purpose the commission is also to ensure that all responsible institutions carry out their legal duties in investigating the corruption and abuse of power within state institutions.

Included among the cases are the largest case of corruption in the history of the country involving the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) as well as the illegal leasing of islands and lagoons to foreign parties.

Earlier, the commission revealed that they are investigating several cases linked to corruption with the joint efforts from the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Attorney General’s Office. As investigations have concluded into some cases, the commission in December 2019 sought to seek charges against individuals implicated in corruption, based on their findings.
