Cases lodged and attended by the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) during 2019 saw a threefold increase in comparison to 2018.
The commission publicized its annual report for the year 2019 which revealed that investigations were completed into a total of 75 cases during 2018.
However, the number increased to 264 during 2019, which is a threefold increase, reported HRCM.
Further, investigations are proceeding into 29 cases, out of the total which were submitted during 2018, the amount is recorded at 247 from 2019.
Statistics show that the commission completed investigations of previous years, incomplete cases as well as ones submitted in the year, during 2019.
The most number of incomplete cases are linked to complaints of health care by prisoners, recorded at 69 cases.
The second greatest number is of cases regarding children, 41 of which were reported during 2019.
While a total of 294 cases were lodged at the commission between 2014 and 2019, they are still being investigated, reveals statistics.
