The government’s education policy is driven by the purpose of building a generation of young minds capable to absorbing modern education technologies and inspired by innovation and productivity, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

While the president traveled to Rinbudhoo island of Dhaalu atoll on Wednesday, he made the statement while addressing a function held on Wednesday evening to mark the golden jubilee of Rinbudhoo School.

As such, he emphasized that his administration's budget "is a testament to its firm policy on prioritising the education sector".

The president noted that the education policy is shaped in a way that will create responsible future generations of citizens beneficial for the nation, emphasizing that it was "centered around building a generation of innovative, creative and skilled citizens".

Further, the president highlighted that the education system requires strengthening in order to shape a community that is driven towards national development and carries the skillset to face developmental as well as economic challenges that may surface in the future.

He added that the government had provided several higher education opportunities from universities abroad, over the past year as well.

Solih went on to assure the island community that the government will provide solutions to their housing needs through government housing schemes. Many of Rinbudhoo residents had been relocated to Thulusdhoo island of Kaafu atoll following the Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004. Solih commended the island residents for the bravery they showed in the face of the calamity.

In addition, the president noted that his government will work to address the issue of coastal erosion facing the island, shedding light on a coastal protection project currently underway.

The island community was also updated on some of the development plans such as a water and sewerage network project which is currently undergoing tender process. Further, the president noted that the electricity service upgrading project is also set to commence within the ongoing year.

The administration is in power to serve the people and will not make hasty decisions without first consulting with the people and aims to work in a way that benefits all, said Solih.

Shedding light on the significance of preserving Maldivian cultures and traditions, Solih added that Rinbudhoo generations were instrumental in reviving the art of jewelry making, having a community of master goldsmiths. The president commended the efforts from artists and the island’s council who were behind the “cultural road” initiative. Further, he extended gratitude to the council for efforts exerted to revive local craftsmanship.
