Bangladeshi caught attempting to smuggle drugs into Maldives

Maldives Customs Service has confiscated drugs from a Bangladeshi citizen who arrived at Velana International Airport, last Sunday.

Customs revealed via a statement that the discovery was made on 9 February, after a 26-year-old Bangladeshi man was searched by customs officials at VIA, after he arrived from Bangladesh.

Further, the statement reads that they confiscated a package of pills during the search. The pills turned positive to a drug known as Amphetamine upon testing, revealed the department.

A total of 1,932 pills of the drug, otherwise known as Yaba were found on the man.

Customs went on to reveal that the pills have a street value of MVR 193,200. The man and confiscated drugs have since been handed over to the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
