A reception commemorating the Huravee Day of the Maldives is set to be held on Tuesday night.

An event organized each year in celebration of Huravee Day, this year’s reception is set to commence at 08:30pm at Thaajudheen School.

It has been revealed that Minister of Home Affairs, Sheikh Imran Abdulla is set to address the ceremony, which will be attended by Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Ibrahim Hassan, as the chief guest.

Further, Mohamed Shifan, a recipient of the National Award of Honor in the area of Dhivehi literature in promoting oratory skills, is also set to address the ceremony.

Huravee Day pays tribute to Sultan Hassan Izzudheen Dhon Bandaarain, the man who freed the country from South Indian invaders who were chased off after a battle lasting about four months in 1752, during the reign of Sultan Mukarram Muhammad Imaduddin III.

The name “Huravee Day” dwells from the fact that Sultan Hassan is a descendent of a family from Huraa island in Kaafu atoll.
