President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has attended the special ceremony held on the occasion of India's 71st Republic Day.

The special ceremony held at Dharubaaruge on Sunday night, attended by Vice President Faisal Naseem, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, Indian Ambassador Sunjay Sudhir and other state dignitaries, featured traditional performances of both countries.

During the ceremony, President Solih was presented with a portrait of himself painted by popular Indian artist Mr Hemant Kumar. Other highlights include a video depicting the diplomatic journey between the Maldives and India since November 2018 and musical performances by both local and Indian artists.

India's Republic Day is celebrated on January 26th annually to mark the occasion of the country's constitution coming into effect following independence from British colonisation.
