The president stated that there are huge disparities between Male' City, evident by the wage differences in the capital city and the atolls.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the report on minimum wage revealed the disparities between Male' City and the atolls.

While speaking at the Northern Conference held on Wednesday as part of the main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) Thiladhunmathi campaign tour for April's Local Council Elections, the president stated that there are huge disparities between Male' City, evident by the wage differences in the capital city and the atolls.

He went onto state that there is no doubt that the Decentralisation Act is MDP's ideology. While highlighting that the initiative was taken during MDP's rule that began in 2008, the president further claimed that the party has consistently maintained this ideology and has worked to develop all the islands in the country ever since the party was founded.

Additionally, the president noted that over MVR 200 million has been allocated in the 2020 state budget for development projects in Thiladhunmathi atoll and added that island councils will play a large role in creating job opportunities.

The Northern Conference and the Thiladhunmathi atoll tour is part of MDP's campaign efforts for the upcoming local council elections slated for April 4th.
