State Trading Organization plc has provided Prenatal & Newborn Screening equipment to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH)

As such, a 2-day workshop on prenatal & newborn screening, organised by STO, was launched on January 15th.

Speaking at the opening ceremony for the workshop, STO's chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director, Hussein Amr, stated that the introduction of this service is very significant as it adds to the progress of the medical sector.

While noting that there are many benefits to both screenings, Amr added that STO is not just a business, but it is also a company that strives to achieve the country's national interests. Hence, the health sector is one of the company's priorities, said Amru.

Prenatal screening using laboratory tests allows the identification of birth defects and genetic conditions while the child is still in the womb. Similarly, newborn screening uses laboratory tests to examine whether the child has any disorders and conditions that could obstruct their development.

The World Health Organization (WHO) states that both screenings help understand the causes behind infant mortality, in addition to identifying the necessary treatments.
