Maldives Civil Aviation Authority has launched an investigation into an accident that occurred after a flight of the Asian Academy of Aeronautics (AAA) crashed.
Publicizing that an accident has occurred via a statement, the authority revealed that it occurred at around 05:32pm and that no injuries were reported in the accident. However, the flight, a Cessna 176 RG training flight, incurred several damages.
Highlighting that an instructor pilot and a student pilot were on-board the flight at the time of the accident, the statement goes on to read that it is being probed by the Accident Investigation Coordination Committee jointly by the authority.
Further, the statement emphasized that the accident occurred during landing, due to an issue with the landing gear of the aircraft.
Earlier, citing the captain of the flight school, Addu City’s Mayor Abdulla Sodiq told RaajjeMV that the flight crashed while the pilot was attempting to land as the nose of the flight was lowered beyond control and some media outlets have also reported that the flight was being piloted by a student completing a Commercial Pilot License.
While the academy-run flight school is currently based in Gan island of Addu City, sources report that it will be relocated to the Maafaru International Airport in coming days, due to a hike in the lease of Addu International Airport.
