The High Court judges’ council has elected Judge Ali Sameer as its representative at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
The court said that Sameer was elected as JSC representative by a unanimous vote on Tuesday.
The vote was taken following Judge Abdul Rauf Ibrahim’s decision to resign from the commission this Sunday.
Ali Sameer studied law in Egypt’s Al Azhar University, and earned his maters in Corporative Law at Malaysia’s International Islamic University.
He was appointed to the High Court bench on 26th March 2011.
The Judges Association of Maldives welcomed Sameer’s appointment as JSC representative, via a tweet on Tuesday.
The Judicial Service Commission comprises of the parliament speaker, a judge of the Supreme Court other than the chief justice, a judge of the High Court, a judge of the lower courts, a member of the people’s majlis, a member of the general public appointed by the People’s Majlis, the president of the Civil Service Commission, a person appointed by the president, the attorney general and a lawyer elected among the lawyers licensed to practice in Maldives.
