The Vice President of Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) Aminath Nadhira, has stated that the party will not give special treatment to family members of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and that all members will have equal opportunity to advance within the party.
While appearing on RaajjeTV's "FalaSuruhee" program, Nadhira declared that the party has confirmed a comprehensive guideline of rules and regulations and that the party will not act outside of the established guidelines.
She also responded to the allegations of nepotism against former President Maumoon, claiming that the accusation is baseless, evident by the fact that there are no relatives of former President Maumoon on the party's executive committee.
According to Nadhira, the party seeks to provide opportunities and guidance to responsible youth that contribute to society. While highlighting the small scale of Maldives making kinships unavoidable, she asserted that family ties will not be considered in any of the party's decisions.
Moreover, while announcing that the party is open to all citizens for registration, she noted that members of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PMM) are also welcome to join MRM.
Most PPM members joined out of loyalty to former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. It is not the fault of PPM members if their leaders have committed crimes, or at least that is my belief that they are not at fault. Hence, I don't see why PPM members cannot become MRM members.Vice President of Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) Aminath Nadhira
MRM’s secretary-general, Abdul Aleem, added that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration was brought power by immense hard work.
As such, MRM was provided appointments within the administration and that the party did not recommend any of former President Maumoon's kin for those positions.
Aleem declared that the party's appointments were determined after holding discussions with party members and through the proper procedures.
Additionally, he stated that former President Maumoon is a role model, and mentor for up and coming political leaders.
