Ministry to take strict action against teachers who harass students

The ministry issued a statement on Monday following reports of an Islam teacher from CHSE harassing a student

The Ministry of Education has assured the public that strict measures will be taken against employees in the sector, if complaints of student harassment are raised against any of them.

The ministry issued a statement on Monday following reports of an Islam teacher from the Center for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) harassing a student, circulating on social media. The statement reads that the ministry discovered the student to have been telling the truth.

Further, it reads that the ministry places high priority in ensuring that all school of the country provide a safe and secure environment for students.

The ministry reached the decision to take strict measures on teachers, lecturers or any employee in the education sector if they target harassment towards any student, and plans to take these issues, “seriously”.

The statement also reads that they will be looking into matters regarding the rights of students, and ensure nothing soils their dignity and reputation.
