Discussions revolving around resolving issues and hindrances facing the Ports Drivers Association of Maldives were held with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Monday.

During the meeting held at the President’s Office, the president was briefed on the collective views of the challenges, issues and hindrances facing the association and its members.

Senior representatives of the association shared issues surfacing due to some of the restrictions imposed by the authorities on the number of hours when drivers are allowed to operate vehicles that clear goods, as well as the ban on vehicles carrying goods to use the bridge at certain times.

Further, issues facing foreign drivers and the reform to guidelines on existing parking regulations were also shared with the president.

Having listened to the concerns posed by the officials, Solih assured that his administration will ensure reform is pursued through the relevant authorities to resolve the issues.

Highlighting that the government gives precedence to securing more opportunities to local workers, he added that the rights of all stakeholders of the association will remain intact, when the required solutions are provided.
