While reports of multiple deaths of infants at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) was reported on Friday, the hospital said that they were most likely “perinatal deaths”.
IGMH said that two babies delivered on Friday had died.
Noting that both babies are believed to have died before birth, the hospital said that such perinatal deaths are always investigated.
IGMH further said that such cases are monitored by a health ministry committee, adding that its details are shared with the families if requested.
The hospital also noted that any such deaths bring immense grief to its employees, and that they are with the families of the babies that died on Friday.
While it was initially reported that three babies had died during birth at IGMH on Friday, the state-run hospital has faced immense backlash over the matter.
