The final reports compiled by the presidential inquiry Commission on Disappearances and Deaths on former parliamentarian, Dr. Afrasheem Ali’s murder and Maldivian model, Raudha Athif’s death, is to be publicized within the proceeding week.
Speaking at the Republic Day function on Sunday night, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih revealed that he had received the reports and that they will be forwarded to the relevant authorities in order to implement the points noted, within the proceeding week.
The commission initially forwarded the report after concluding their investigations, to the President’s Office on 7 November.
The MP for Ungoofaaru constituency was stabbed to death during October 2012, near the stairwell of his house in capital city Malé and the only individual convicted in the case thus far is Hussain Humaam, although two were charged. Humaam was slapped with a death sentence after a trial deemed questionable by the public.
The commission further began seeking an individual after publicizing a video footage and asserted that they have documented everyone involved in the murder case.
Raudha Athif, 21, who rose to fame following a photograph by a local photographer went viral and was known for her unique pair of aqua blue eyes, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her dorm room in her hostel of the Islamic Bank Medical College of Bangladesh during March 2017.
Following the initial autopsy report which ruled out the possibility of a murder, the model’s family disputed the report, claiming that she was murdered. They began seeking assistance from Maldivian authorities in seeking out the cause of her death.
The commission’s probe into Raudha’s death began after her father appealed for investigations.
The young model was taken in her prime while she had been gaining international recognition as a fashion model, having also been featured in the cover of Vogue Magazine’s Indian edition in 2016.
While the commission is additionally investigating 24 other murders and enforced disappearances including the ones linked to Minivan News Journalist Ahmed Rilwan and slain blogger and human rights’ activist, Yameen Rasheed, it was formed by the incumbent president right after assuming office in November 2018.
Serving justice for those who had been slain or abducted is a pledge of the incumbent government.
