Maldives Police Service statistics has revealed that over 700 vehicles were issued parking violation stickers within the previous week, a substantial rise compared to the week prior to that.
Publicizing the Traffic Management Department's weekly statistics from 2-8 November, police revealed that a total of 689 vehicles were inspected within the week, out of which 30 were towed.
While 753 parking violation stickers were issued in total, 77 riders and drivers were caught without a license card.
Further, police reported three cases of speeding, 38 cases of riders who did not pay their vehicle’s annual fee, 69 riders without insurance or road worthiness, 44 without their licenses on them and a total of five riders who had their licenses either seized, damaged or expired.
19 cases of violating traffic signs were reported, along with 17 riders without their helmets. Police went on to report 25 cases where riders had their headphones on, or were using the phone while driving.
Others include five overloaded vehicles, six without their number plates and 28 for overtaking or attempting to switch lanes while riding.
Statistics also reported 38 road accidents out of which 14 were injurious.
Out of the total, five riders were stopped for smoking while operating a vehicle, eight for malfunctioned vehicle lights and three for illegal taxing.
