Islamic ministry was aware of MDN report as it was being prepared in 2015: Shahindha

The youth ministry has placed MDN under temporary suspension

A complaint against the report was filed at the ministry by a religious organization in 2016

Shahindha Ismail, founder of Maldives Democratic Network (MDN), has made a statement claiming the Islamic Ministry gave an interview in their report “Preliminary Assessment of Radicalization in the Maldives”

Many people have voiced their concerns against the MDN report due to allegations of disrespectful content opposing Islam and the prophet Muhammed (PBUH). In turn, the youth ministry has placed MDN under temporary suspension.

In response to a press conference by the Islamic Ministry regarding the report, Shahindha tweeted claiming the Islamic Ministry "was not only aware of the report" as it was being prepared in 2015 but that it had "participated in it" as well.

She noted that ministry's interview in included in the report, and accused Jamiyya Salaf and ruling coalition partner Adhaalath Party of trying to "distract people from knowing what is in it."

The Islamic ministry has recently admitted a complaint against the report was filed at the ministry by a religious organization, in 2016.

Many from the public has called for the resignation of MDN officials from their posts in public office. Sources say all MDN officials involved in compiling the report are currently settled abroad. Shahindha herself had relocated to Germany by the time public outcry broke out over the report.
