National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has begun moving some of the families affected by the chemical warehouse fire on 20 September, back to their homes.
The authority revealed that six families out of all the families of over 300 individuals, provided temporary shelter following the fire, have been moved back to their houses after a risk assessment was completed.
Over 400 individuals were affected and authorities revealed that some of the buildings affected by the fire were unlivable, and required to be dismantled.
While everyone affected by the fire that took down four warehouses and six houses were provided temporary shelter within the week following the disaster, a 46-year-old woman trapped inside her apartment at the time of the fire, died.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has since ordered chemical warehouses to be relocated, and the government has allocated Thilafushi island for chemical storage.
