Maldives reminds UN of failure to resolve the Palestine-Israel conflict
"Maldives will always stand unwavering in its support for Palestinians"
"Lasting peace between Palestine and Israel can be reached through genuine dialogue"

Maldives has reminded the United Nations that they collectively failed to resolve the issue of the Palestine-Israel conflict, despite the "best attempts" in collaboration with Member States.

Delivering the Maldives General Debate Statement at the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih noted that the question of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, remains unsolved.

Highlighting that terrorism and violent extremism have become one of “the biggest threats” of the 21st century of which the roots are found from the evolving world, Solih stressed that never before have the Palestinian people’s rights been so “blatantly” dismissed by Israel, which continues to discriminate and marginalize the country in “complete disregard” of international law as well as the resolutions set by both the General Assembly and the Security Council.

"As we have come to know, terrorism and terrorists do not recognize national boundaries. On Easter Sunday, we woke up to the shocking news of terror attacks in Sri Lanka, our closest neighbour. The danger of these networks spilling over our borders is all too real. What is required is concerted global action. This involves everything from intelligence sharing, counterterrorism training and best practice sharing, as well as reforming our financial system to starve terrorist networks of finance. Unilateral attempts to deal with this menace are largely futile without corresponding global co-ordination, which is why the UN remains so relevant to the world."
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Also, the President added that Maldives strongly believes that lasting peace in the Middle East can only be reached through solution-driven dialogue between the Arab countries and Israel that are genuine and meaningful.

Solih went on to urge the UN member states to summon every ounce of effort to work towards a settlement that would achieve everlasting peace in the region.

In this regard, the Maldives President stated that Maldives “will always” stand in solidarity with Palestine in their unwavering efforts to achieve independence.

"The Maldives will always stand unwavering in its support for the Palestinians, in their endeavour to achieve an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its Capital City"
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Highlighting that everyone present at the assembly represents the interests of their respective nations, Solih asserted that all of them represent the world community and humanity that the world is parched for.

Similarly, while the UN has “greatly helped” in fostering peace and averting conflict over, a remarkable half-a-century, Solih assured that Maldives will continue to partner with multiple international friends to overcome obstacles and effectively resolve the common challenges that surface, through a renewed spirit for engagement.
