The two men had attempted to smuggle in a large number of electronics
Two men have been arrested for attempting to smuggle a large number of items into Maafushi Prison.
The police service stated that the two men were arrested in an operation conducted with the Correctional Service on Saturday after receiving a tip-off.
They had attempted to smuggle in electronics, including 62 chargers, 39 USB drives, 41 smartphones, 30 Nokia phones, 22 headsets, five adapters, and seven Dhiraagu SIM cards. Other items include five scissors, three knives, and two box cutters.
The suspects are Maldivian men aged 21 and 26. The 21-year-old has been remanded for 10 days, and the 26-year-old was remanded for 15 days.
