Ministry of Economic Development has banned agencies from bringing in new Bangladeshi workers for one year.

The announcement was made by Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail.

Speaking at a press conference, the Minister said that they will not be issuing permits for unskilled Bangladeshi workers for one year.

The Ministry has set a quota for foreign unskilled workers in the Maldives, with each country receiving a quota of 150,000.

The Ministry has stated that there are already 150,000 Bangladeshi laborers in the country, out of which 5,000 are illegals.
