President discusses future development projects with Dhidhdhoo Council
 
They requested to provide recreational facilities for the island’s youth community
 
Councilors were inquired about the requirements of the island community, as well as their urgent concerns

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has discussed future development projects with the Island Council of Dhidhdhoo in Haa Alif atoll.

Solih met with Dhidhdhoo councilors at the President’s Office on Sunday afternoon and shared with them, updates of the projects marked within the scope of 2019’s government budget.

Councilors were inquired about the requirements of the island community, as well as their urgent concerns by the President at the meeting.

Ongoing development projects as well as future development plans for the island were among the topics discussed, along with the details of raising issues for the island all relating to underdevelopment.

As such, the councilors highlighted that the island’s harbor is in need of development, the island community requires a quick solution to the pressing issue of soil erosion and urged the government to upgrade the health facilities in the island.

Further, councilors requested the President to provide recreational facilities for the island’s youth community.

The President went on to highlight that the government plans to initiate a harbor development project in the island into the end of this year and assured the councilors that the project will be completed within 2020.

Shedding light on unresolved issues, Solih assured that they will be taken up with the relevant ministries for further discussions in order to reach a solution to tackle the issues at hand.

In addition, Solih stated that the amendments proposed to the Decentralization Act will increase the roles and responsibilities of councilors and held them address the majority of concerns surfacing for their constituents.
