MIRA officials were summoned for questioning regarding an audit report regarding the MMPRC case

MP for Dhaandhoo constituency, Yaugoob Mohamed has revealed that he had attained chat logs of a conversation between Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA)’s Commissioner General of Taxation Yazeed Mohamed and former Vice President and then-Tourism Minister, Ahmed Adeeb.

MIRA officials were summoned to the Public Accounts Committee meeting for questioning regarding the audit report on MMPRC’s case.

Speaking at the Public Accounts Committee meeting held on Monday, MP and committee member Yaugoob had posed several questions about said communications between Yazeed and ex-VP Adeeb, following reports the MP had received on some chat logs.

MP Yaugoob asked Yazeed whether he had carried out any urgent calls following requests from the Auditor General for further information regarding the audit report by the Tourism Ministry and Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).

Denying this, Yazeed said that MIRA carries out procedures the way it should be done when it comes to the auditor general, and other cases.

He further said that MIRA does not carry out procedures the way the sitting commissioner general wants it at any time and that it has a strong internal control system, segregation of duties and every single function of the company is balanced.

As such, MIRA does not favor to anyone in accordance with the commissioner general’s wishes.

Yazeed was also questioned whether he had sought advice from ex-VP Adeeb regarding land rent to which he replied that transactions were carried out as per the set procedures.
