President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have returned from their four-day unofficial visit to Sri Lanka.
While they departed on Wednesday, they returned on Saturday night after the Eid-Al-Adha holidays.
The President last paid a visit to the neighboring country in February, upon the invitation of the country’s President Maithripala Sirisena. During the official visit Solih was the guest of honor at the country’s Independence Day celebrations. He had also met with the Maldivian community residing there.
He has also made two other unofficial visits to the neighboring country since he was elected last September.
Before his trip, Solih had attended a friendly volleyball match played between Sri Lanka and Maldives which Sri Lanka won on Tuesday.
Following the Easter Sunday bombings in Sri Lanka, a special delegation had traveled from Maldives in solidarity with the neighboring country. The delegation was joined by former President and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed as well as Vice President Faisal Naseem along with ruling-party parliamentarians who joined hands to show the world that Sri Lanka is still a safe country, despite the terror attacks.
