Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has received MVR 186 million, as an airport development fee in the second quarter of the year.
Airport Development Fee (ADF) is levied on passengers departing from Velana International Airport from 1st May 2017. Foreign passengers are charged USD 25 while Maldivian passengers are charged USD 12. Only passengers with diplomatic immunity are exempt from ADF.
ADF is in addition to an Airport Service Charge, which is levied on passengers from any airport in the Maldives, at a rate of USD 25 per foreign passenger and USD 12 per Maldivian passenger. Persons with diplomatic immunity, transit passengers and children under the age of 2 are exempt from this.
The airlines are responsible for collection of ASC and ADF from their passengers for scheduled flights, while operators from respective airports are responsible for collecting them from passengers from flights such as jets and chartered flights.
Airlines that operate scheduled flights to the Maldives and operators of the international airports in the Maldives are registered for ASC and ADF with MIRA, and are required to file the return and make payment to MIRA by 15th of each month.
