Lagoon leased to non-existent company after approval from ex-AG Anil: ministry

Not clear whether or not the company registered after transactions began

Sunny Holdings was not a registered company when the lagoon was leased to it

Ex-AG Anil had given the green light to go forward with the transactions

Minister of Tourism, Ali Waheed has revealed that a lagoon in the Malé region was leased to a “non-existent” company during the previous administration.

Waheed said that then Attorney General Mohamed Anil had given the green light to go forward with this transactions.

According to the ministry, “Sunny Holdings” was not a registered company when the lagoon was leased to it during the ex-president's five-year tenure.

Although the ministry had the opportunity to carry out the deal in the previous government, the ministry has since forwarded a case to the current Attorney General, seeking a verdict.

Noting that the ministry discovered the issue very recently, Waheed stated that investigations into the case are underway.

The ministry had not revealed whether or not the company had been registered after the transactions began.
