Maldives has officially presented the bid to host the 2023 Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG).
Sports Minister Ahmed Mahloof presented the bid at a meeting held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Mauritius, where IOIG 2019 is currently ongoing.
In addition to Maldives, Comoros and Madagascar also presented their bids at Saturday’s meeting.
In a tweet sent afterwards, Minister Mahloof noted that Maldives has not a missed a single edition of the Indian Ocean Island Games since the beginning.

Mahloof also noted that the Indian Ocean Island Games is the first international event that Maldives competed in, and emphasized that the games “are connected the people’s hearts.”
The sports minister traveled to Mauritius ahead of the opening ceremony on Friday, after concluding an Indian Ocean island tour with Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid.
As the foreign minister as the president’s special envoy, this high-level delegation traveled to four countries, seeking support for Maldives’ bid to host IOIG 2023.
While they had traveled to this year’s host country Mauritius, as well as Seychelles, Madagascar and Comoros has assured its support to the South Asian nation.
