Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a white alert following the prediction of swell wave surges in central and southern Atolls.

The white alert was issued between 10:30am and 3pm on Monday over the region in central southern-most atolls.

According to the department, heavy rain showers and thunderstorms are expected over the region over the next few hours.

While scattered rain and a few heavy showers are expected, surface winds will gust south-west to westerly at 5 – 15 miles per hour and gusty winds are predicted to be 35 miles per hour.

Seas are expected to be slight becoming moderate during showers, said the office.
