Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed that the development work of the seaplane terminal at Velana International Airport is almost at an end.

MACL revealed that while the terminal’s structure has been worked out, they are currently working to install its façade.

Further, they have completed the installment of escalators inside the terminal and are currently working to install air conditioning and to plant electrical wiring and plumbing.

General Manager of Infrastructure Development at the company, Mohamed Solah earlier revealed that the development project will be completed and the terminal will be open for operations by September.

While Maldives has the largest seaplane fleet across the globe, the new terminal measures three times bigger than the current seaplane terminal. The new terminal measures 28,000 square meters.

MACL revealed that the development project was tasked to one of China’s renowned construction companies, Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG).

The current seaplane terminal provides service for up to 2,000 travelers a day and has over 60 operating sea planes.
