FIVB rejects VAM's interim committee, asks for details in the case

FIVB noted that VAM is “a full member of the FIVB with the rights and obligations associated with such membership”

Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) has refused to recognize the interim committee formed by the Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM), after removing its executive committee.

In a letter addressed to the President of the Maldives Olympic Committee Mohamed Shaweed, FIVB’s General Director Fabio Azevedo said that they have been made aware of this, as well as confiscation of VAM’s offices.

Noting that VAM is “a full member of the FIVB with the rights and obligations associated with such membership,” Azevedo said that FIVB will recognize the original executive committee until its investigation concludes.

It also noted that this committee was “duly elected” and that the federation “has not been provided with any evidence of any reason to remove it at this time.”

The letter further noted that FIVB is working to obtain information “to better understand the situation” with VAM.

This interim committee comprises of Ahmed Amir, Ahmed Ismail, Hussain Mohamed, Ahmed Ibrahim and Mariyam Jumana. Amir and Ismail were appointed as the committee president and deputy, respectively.
