Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested President of Alif Dhaal Omadhoo island council.
Police media official told RaajjeMV that he was arrested following reports of threatening employees at the island’s health center.
He was taken into police custody under a court order close to 6pm on Monday evening.
The 41-year-old had threatened employees at the health center for denying Aasandha services for a new born child when they tried to acquire it through the new born’s mother’s ID.
His arrest comes as his intimidation had gone to the extent that employees had been “hesitant” to come to work, revealed police.
