Government does not wish to control independent institutions: Hood
Parliament will be taking action against members of independent institutions who do not follow through
If any complaints regarding members appointed to government boards are received, will carry investigations

The government of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih does not wish to control independent institutions, revealed Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Ibrahim Hood.

At a press conference on Thursday, Hood stated that the People’s Majlis, which “just began operating well”, will be deciding on issues and concerns relating to independent institutions.

When asked why the authorities do not take any action against some government officials like the President of the Anti-Corruption Commission, Hassan Luthufee and Vice President of the Broadcasting Commission of the Maldives (MBC) Ismail Sofwan and several others for getting their full salaries even though they do not step foot inside the office, Hood responded that they will look into the matter and that in the near future, everything will be carried out under the “due process”.

While the spokesperson also said that the parliament will be taking action against members of independent institutions, RaajjeMV understands that Luthufee and Sofwan have been receiving their full salaries although they have not been arriving at work for six months now.

However, the matter has since been brought to the attention of the President’s Office.

As such, Broadcom is seeking action against its Vice President through the President’s Office as well as the parliament.

According to the broadcasting act, members must be relieved from duty if they do not attend commission meetings three consecutive times. This was included in the letter forwarded to the President’s Office.

Hood further said that if they receive any complaints regarding members appointed to government boards, they will investigate the case.

With this being said, RaajjeMV understands that allegations of sexual abuse was pinned against board member at the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Sinan Ali and allegations were forwarded against him to the Prosecutor’s Office as well.

Videos implicating Sinan had also circulated in social media and the government had drawn severe public criticism over it.
