President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided to seek parliament opinion on a thought presented by his cabinet of ministers to sign a Trade Facilitation Agreement.
Solih reached the decision at a cabinet meeting held on Wednesday morning.
The biggest aim of the agreement is to provide efficient ways to clear, transit and release goods as well as to work in trade facilitation with the cooperation of international customs and other institutions and to eradicate challenges surfacing in the border when it comes to imports and exports by improving customs compliance.
President’s Office revealed that they seek to pave efficient ways to maintain and improve business communication, transactions, expenses and general services.
By the World Trade Organization, the agreement in question aims to simplify and speed up customs procedure by member countries for enhancing trade.
Under the agreement, clearance of goods will be sped up, ties between border agencies will strengthen and business owners will benefit a great deal. This will result in import export ties enhancing with the international market.
Further, President’s Office revealed that they are doing all the work to carry out the legal procedures to sign the agreement.
