Eid represents an opportunity for the people to “reinvigorate” a sense of good will and generosity towards one another, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Solih said this in his address to the people of Maldives on Tuesday morning, extending his felicitations and well wishes to the people of Maldives in commemoration of Eid-Al-Fitr.

While Eid-Al-Fitr marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan 1440, Solih addressed the nation on the morning of Eid.

He emphasized that in addition to being a religious holiday, Eid represents an opportunity for citizens to feel a part of one community.

Further, he called on the people to uphold the hospitable and sociable traditions of a “Jazeera Raajje” or island nation. He went on to urge the people to involve the entire community when celebrating the festive occasion.

Due to heavy rain showers on Tuesday morning, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs had cancelled the Eid congregation. However, the Eid prayer was held in Mosques nation-wide.

The Eid congregation was to be held in the turf grounds in Maafannu-ward of the capital city Malé.

Maldives has been holding a congregation prayer in commemoration of Eid for seven years.

Also, Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Ibrahim Hoodh revealed that the First Couple would not be greeting the people of Maldives scheduled at Mulee’aage, due to the squally weather.

Eid-Al-Fitr is celebrated by the entire Muslim nation worldwide and is a religious festival that falls on the first day of Shawwal that follows Ramadan.
