Maldives has established diplomatic relations with Bolivia, located in the western-central South America.
The joint communiqué was signed on Saturday in New York, America.
Permanent Representative to the United Nations Sacha Sergio Llorenti Soliz signed on behalf of the government of Bolivia while Maldives Ambassador to the United States of America, Thilmeeza Hussain signed on behalf of the government of Maldives.
Shortly after the joint communiqué was signed, Maldives Mission in New York took to Twitter, writing that the Maldives looks forward to further enhancing cooperation with Bolivia in the future.
Bolivia is the 171st state with which Maldives has established diplomatic relations. Since gaining independence, Maldives had first established diplomatic relations with United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, India and the United States of America.
Prior to Bolivia, Maldives established diplomatic relations with Ethiopia in August 2018, during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen.
