A “Road Safety Campaign” has been initiated by the authorities, set to commence in June.
This was announced through a press conference the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment held in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation and the Maldives Police Service. Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof stated that the program will aim to create road safety awareness among the public.
The program is set to begin on 2 June.
An initiative by the Social Council upon Vice President Faisal Naseem’s request, the “Road Safety Campaign” will be held from 04:30 pm to 05:45 pm on 2 June.
“The event will mostly focus on spreading awareness through social media. We will be setting up frames through which people may take pictures. For now, many companies are joining us for this campaign” said Mahloof.![]()
Transport Minister Aishath Nahula stressed that many sorrowful accidents have taken place within the past few days and that it is important to hold such an awareness program.
The minister assured that many such awareness programs are set to be held with the cooperation from the Youth Ministry, in the near future.
Head of Traffic Department of the MPS, Superintendent of Police Hussain Sameer stated that they will be shedding light on five things connected to current occurrences during the campaign. As such, the public will be made aware on speeding, riding with children, safety while road crossing as well as pavement safety.
The program, joined by 20 different institutions, will be carried out in 11 regions out of which nine are in capital city Malé and two in it’s suburban extension Hulhumale.
