Broadcom seeks justification from SanguTV for airing sexual content
SanguTV aired a drama series on 23 May that showed sexual content
The content has drawn severe public criticism

Broadcasting Commission of the Maldives has sought a justification from local television station, SanguTV for broadcasting sexual content.

In a letter addressed to SanguTV’s Chief Executive Officer Ibrahim ‘Asward’ Waheed, Broadcom wrote that the content in a drama series the channel aired on 23 May is degrading and does not fit the broadcasting regulations of the country.

As such, the content is not fitting to broadcast under Chapter 2 of the Broadcasting Act, which states that Broadcom is established as an independent institution which may take action against broadcasters in breach of policies stated under the act.

However, the letter also states that action will be taken after thorough investigations into said inappropriate content.

Broadcom also ordered the channel to be cautious of the content they air henceforth, as they are investigating the case currently.

The commission sought SanguTV to provide their justification before 11 June. If they fail to respond, Broadcom will be reaching a decision based on their findings, the letter further read.

The drama series in question, shows two individuals frolicking and has drawn severe public criticism especially since it is the month of Ramadan.
