President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has been informed on the unresolved soil erosion issues in Meemu atoll.
Council members of Kolhufushi island in Meemu atoll had met with President Solih on Wednesday morning and briefed him on the current issues atoll residents face.
As such, they requested for a speedy solution for the soil erosion issues surfacing for Dhiggaru, Mulah and Kolhufushi residents.
At the meeting, members had shared with the President, the council’s plans for further development and economic progress of the island.
During the meeting held at the President’s Office, council members had highlighted at the island residents have high expectations for tourism development in the atoll.
Shedding light on the need to provide more job opportunities for the youth community in the island, the members had also stressed on the difficulties the community faces due to the lack of housing units. The members also expressed Nalafushi island’s requirement to develop the island harbor.
Requesting the President to provide assistance in the project to install better lighting on the streets of the island, members also briefed President Solih on the urgent needs on the island community.
Listening to the urgent requirements of the council, President Solih assured that his government will take necessary action after discussing with the relevant ministries to tackle the issues at hand.
Solih further highlighted that extending tourism industry to all parts of the nation is one of his government’s highest priorities alongside development plans.
