Japanese navy ship, “JS Samidare” has arrived in the Maldives on a two-day visit on Wednesday morning.

While the ship will leave the country waters on Thursday, RaajjeMV understands that the navy ship has currently been anchored off the coast on capital city Malé and its visit is to refuel and restock.

The team from the navy destroyer, built in 2000 and commissioned in 2003, will be visiting the Hiriyaa School to conduct a social programme in which officers will teach students rope knock, demonstrate the trumpet bugle call as well as showcase different uniforms worn by different ranking officers. This visit will be conducted through the Embassy of Japan in the Maldives.

RaajjeMV also understands that the ship will be conducting a joint exercise with the Maldivian Coastguard on communications before departing.

Naval officers from Japan will also be calling on Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Keiko Yanai and Chief of Defense Force, Major General Abdulla Shamaal before departure on Thursday.

“JS Samidare” is the sixth ship of the “Murasame” class multipurpose destroyer and measures 151 meters in length.
