Foreign Ministry closely monitoring situation in Sri Lanka
Explosions hit two churches and two hotels on Easter Sunday

Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed that the Maldives Embassy in Colombo is “closely monitoring” the situation in regard to the string of bomb blasts in Sri Lanka.

Revealing that they are monitoring to see if any Maldivians have been injured in the bombings, Foreign Ministry urged concerned family members to contact them through their consular hotlines, Colombo, +94727277072 or +94766942654 and Maldives, 7983400 for inquiries.

On Easter Sunday, multiple explosions were reported in about six locations in Sri Lanka including a church and two upscale hotels in Colombo and two other churches in Katana and in Negombo, north of Colombo.

The first explosions were reported at St Anthony’s Church in Colombo and St Sebastian’s in the town of Negombo just outside the capital.

RaajjeMV understands that over 200 people have been reported injured and at least 20 have been killed according to foreign news outlets. While several foreign media are reporting different death rates, some say the number reaches over 40. Several casualties have been reported with one tourist having been reported dead from the bombing at Colombo’s Cinnamon Grand Hotel.

While at least eight bombs went off, authorities are yet to apprehend the bombers.

Following the tragedy, Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid took to twitter that the heinous terroristic attack claiming numerus lives and injuring many, is condemned. FM Shahid conveyed deepest condolences and prayers with the government and people of Sri Lanka as well as affected Families.
