Foundation established in memory of Rilwan and Yameen

A foundation has been established in memory of missing journalist Ahmed Rilwan and murdered blogger Yameen Rasheed.

Their families made the announcement at a press conference on Wednesday, on Yameen’s 31st birthday.

Rilwan’s mother Mariyam Shafeeq said the Rilwan & Yameen Foundation aims to preserve their memories and provide educational and training opportunities for people pursuing fields related to the causes they had advocated.

Also at the press conference, Yameen’s mother gave her heartfelt thanks to everyone who had worked to find justice for Yameen.

The families also expressed concern over the lack of progress regarding their cases and accused gangs, politicians, state authorities, and courts of hiding the truth.

It has been 1,700 days since Rilwan’s disappearance and the court acquitted those suspected of his kidnap late last year.

Police arrested five suspects in Yameen’s case but have so far refused to provide any information on their long investigation.
