President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed that while the former administration spent close to MVR 70 million for establishing sewerage systems, his administration has managed to provide the service for MVR 27 million.
Speaking at a campaign event in Billehdoo island in Faafu atoll, President Solih stated that government projects are observed to cost under MVR 50 million after the bidding process was conducted transparently.
He went on to state that corruption in the previous administration is crystal clear.
“We are now finding out the actual bid rates for those projects. While it was for 70 million back then, now bids are between 20 – 30 million. We are now completing establishment of sewerage systems that had cost 70 million, for 27 – 30 million,” said Solih.
The government has also achieved a way to accomplish these development goals with input from the people, he said.
On 28 January, the government began implementing the policy of submitting proposals to the government without an invitation for bidding. President’s office revealed that the Ministry of Economic Development carries out the details regarding agreements that may be reached under these proposals.
As a result, prices of government projects had reduced significantly, said Solih.
