Maldives willing to further relationship with Bangladesh: President
FM Shahid also extended good wishes for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the people of Bangladesh

Maldives is willing to further the historic relationship with Bangladesh in the years to come, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

President Solih made the statement in a message sent to Bangladeshi President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on the occasion of the 48th Independence Day of Bangladesh.

Highlighting that both countries share common cultural affinities cemented by values of mutual respect and commitment to work together for the progress of both countries, their people and the entirety of the South Asia region, President Solih in his message extended profound felicitations and good wishes to the leaders, the government and the friendly people of Bangladesh, with whom the Maldives has enjoyed years of bilateral ties and trust.

Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid also extended felicitations to his counterpart in Bangladesh.

Extending good wishes for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the people of Bangladesh as well as the Minister, Minister Shahid emphasized the close bond of friendship and cooperation that has been shared between both countries for over four decades.

Stating that the cooperation has been shared based on shared values, mutual respect and understanding, Minister Shahid expressed his hope and confidence that Maldives and Bangladesh will continue to work together on bilateral and international issues of mutual concern in order to further strengthen their close ties.

Bangladesh celebrates its Independence annually on 26 March in remembrance of the declaration of independence from Pakistan in 1971.
