Police reveal death of two linked to gang violence
Both deaths revolved around revenge
Investigations in both cases have concluded and forwarded to the PG office

Maldives Police Service (MPS) have revealed that Ibrahim Agil, native to Faresmaathodhaa island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll and Ismail Shaffaan Shareef, native to Feydhoo island in Shaviyani atoll were both murdered in connection to gang violence.

MPS Homicide official Mohamed Saamee revealed that police investigations have confirmed both deaths to be related to the series of gang violence during the days.

As such, Agil, 19, was slain when he had gotten off in the capital city after having concluded a trip to Fulidhoo island in Vaavu atoll, near the capital’s harbor close to Maldives Monetary Authority premises. Agil had been stabbed and he was likely dead upon arrival at the hospital, police reports confirm.

Thus far, three have been arrested in connection to the case and while they have concluded the investigations into the case, they have forwarded charges to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Arrested in connection to Agil’s murder were Ali Mijwadh Malik Ibrahim, 19, native to Hithadhoo, Hamdhoon Hamzath, 19, native to Fonadhoo and Ibrahim Vishan native to Dhidhdhoo.

Similarly, Shaffan was slain on the 11th of October 2018 in front of his residence in Galolhu ward of the capital city. He was taken to the hospital with stab wounds to eight places, however, he was likely dead upon arrival at the hospital, MPS revealed.

While four have been arrested in connection to Shaffan’s murder, their trials have since begun at the Criminal Court as well.

As such, trials are ongoing for charges against Mohamed Aiman Habeeb, 27, native to Hithadhoo, Hassan Nabah, 19, native to Maradhoo, Hussain Nihad Ahmed, 27 native to Hithadhoo and Hussain Jailan, 19, native to capital city Malé.

Police have confirmed that the four have been remanded for the remainder of their trials.

All four have a criminal record of being involved in drug cases, theft and previous cases of gang violence.
