Unfairly Fired Employees
800 complaints filed, over unfair dismissals
Most complaints were from former FENAKA and Post employees
35 complaints from police, 28 from army officers

The Presidential Action Committee has revealed that they have received 800 complaints from employees who were unfairly terminated by the government of former President Abdulla Yameen, for political reasons.

The President’s Office on 6th December opened the opportunity for every individual who was unfairly fired, wronged, or who had unwarranted measures taken against them during Yameen’s five-year term, to submit their complaints to the President’s Office within 30 days.

In a statement released on Thursday, the President’s Office revealed that the most complaints were submitted from former employees at state utilities company FENAKA and Maldives Ports Limited. Out of the 800, 125 were from former FENAKA employees while 55 were from unjustly sacked employees at MPL.

Out of the complaints, 94 from FENAKA and 38 from MPL were to do with politically influenced sacking.

While 43 complaints were from unfairly sacked employees from Maldives Police Service and 42 were from former army officers.

35 police officers and 28 army officials were sacked for political reasons, the report further revealed.

The report highlights that 47 complaints were submitted after receiving no solution even after having submitted their cases to court.

According to investigations by the committee, 104 individuals may thus far, be reinstated.

61 island council members and councilors had submitted their complaints as well.

Reinstating unfairly sacked employees at state institutions and companies is included in President Solih’s first 100-day pledges. President Solih’s 100-day agenda states that all employees who have been unfairly dismissed will be reinstated and those who were transferred to other positions will be given their original positions.
